Our Mulches:

Mulches are great for topdressing your garden to help with weed suppression. They also help the soil retain moisture – a real benefit for your plants during dry summers.

Plant’s Choice offers natural mulches brought in from northern forests as well as woodchips made from recycled wood products. In addition, at Plant’s Choice we have the equipment and experience to custom colour our mulches on site. We are excited to offer four popular choices for those interested in creating a colorful landscape design!

Plant’s ChoiceTM Forest Mulch
A fine, aged mulch consisting of both hardwoods and softwoods. It has a rich, natural dark brown colour which blends in nicely with any surroundings. It is a popular choice for landscapers and homeowners alike.

Plant’s ChoiceTM Softwood Mulch
A coarse mulch made from softwood sources, the chips are roughly 2” in size. Lighter in colour, this durable mulch provides great coverage and is easy to apply.

Plant’s ChoiceTM Shredded Pine Mulch
A premium mulch which looks great, lasts long and smells wonderful – made from red and white pine, ground to a fine and even consistency.

Plant’s ChoiceTM Classic Cedar Mulch
Our Classic Cedar Mulch is a premium mulch which comes from Ontario’s north. It consists of freshly ground white cedar bark, which gives it a fibrous texture and a strong cedar aroma. It’s long lasting with a slow decomposition. It starts as a golden brown colour that grays with age.

Plant’s ChoiceTM Coloured Mulches: Black, Brown, Red
Our four coloured mulches have proven to be extremely popular over the years due to their fantastic colour and universal appeal. Use in landscape settings to create dramatic colour contrasts with plantings and other garden features.

Note: The coloured mulches are dyed with water based organic compounds. People with extremely sensitive skin or an allergy to iron oxide may want to wear gloves when handling.

Our sand:

Coarse Sand
Concrete Sand is also known as coarse washed sand. It is an aggregate sand that is crushed at the quarry and then washed through a screen to ensure that there are no large pieces of rocks left in it.

Uses:
It is most commonly used as a key ingredient in cement or hot asphalt but can also be used as pipe sand or as a base layer and leveling medium for above ground pools, and patios or walkways made of concrete paving stones.

Fine Sand
Fine sand is also known as mason sand. It is similar to concrete sand, but it is crushed finer. It is also washed thru screens to ensure the uniformity of the grain is maintained.

Uses: It can be used in cement, particularly for projects like swimming pools and concrete paving stones where the finer grain gives a more finished appearance. Its finer texture also makes it an acceptable replacement for beach sand used in sand volleyball courts, sand boxes and horse shoe pits.
